I'm installing 450 sq ft of 18" sq porcelain tile on a sub floor that is flat and solid. Can I substitute wonder board (securely fastened) for a mud base and then use thinset to set the tile on the wonder board? Also, the existing floor is vinyl tile which is secure and solid, can I fasten the wonder board over the existing tile?
