Yes, condensation is more of a problem on medium efficiency furnaces and it attacks the mortar on unlined flues and then the mortar fails. You then get cracks and even falling bricks, that lets exhaust gases enter the house. Pretend you park your car in your living room and start the engine. I would have put in condensing furnaces - they don't use a flue.
