Builder refused to build with Trex because of Mold Posted by Rich Montgomery on March 20th, 2004 03:11 PM In reply to Recommended Deck Materials, buyers beware? by Karen H. Wagstaff on March 17th, 2004 03:30 PM [Go to top of thread]
A number of months ago, my wife and I hired a Trex contractor to replace all of our deck's wooden surface boards and railings with Winchester Grey Trex. They stalled on the build for months. Just last week, they called and said they will not build it for us and are returning our deposit. They said they have been having problems with several customers' Trex decks. They claim to have been in contact with Trex about it. They said that Trex said there were some "bad batches" made, but have no real way to track which were bad because boards aren't individually labeled/marked. We were very bummed about this, as we thought we got a good price. However, after doing some research, I'm going to replace the boards myself with good, old-fashion wood! However, I will probably use a tinted stain - a stronger protectant than plain stain. Please contact me at richrocket2000@hotmail.com if you would like more info or have any insights on this Trex mess. What a disappointment! Was this post helpful? Yes: or No:
