If the grout cracked, it is probably because the subsurface is not strong enough. You should use a tile backerboard under tile.
You could probably get the tile up easy enough and save it. Cement down 1/4" Hardibacker and tile over that. Use latex modified thinset to glue down the Hardibacker and also for the tile.
