Fingernail polish may as well or (believe it or not) WD40. If you use anything flammable, be sure the wash the area afterward and also allow it to dry thoroughly before use.

On a gas dryer, fumes burnt by the gas flame may cause bad odors in the clothing being dried and also the exhausted air.
