I agree with the finish recommendation, especially that if you choose to go with oil based that you hire someone to do it for you. Oil based polys are not watercolors and can be fairly nasty to work with.
Satin is absolutely the finish of choice, a gloss is horrible because it shows EVERYTHING thats wrong with the floor, and will dull in the high traffic areas anyway.
