plumbing stuff is made with nobel metals and usually not subject to excessive corrision, besides when assembled in 1963 as today plumbing threads get coating of thread sealer, this further reduces the phenoman of frozen(by corrision) parts

just make sure you unscrew counterclockwise

you only have to drain system to below valves, complete drain of system probally not needed, unless your doing a basement valve, next to furnace

as far as parts, i would do it like this, remove old leakey valves and take them old valves with you to local plumbing supply, please not some orange aproned, idiot staffed home depot. a real plumbing supply

let the counterperson and you choose what will fit, best for you and price

if you do break one valve thread off in the radiator, they sell eazy-outs at plumbing suply....dont get the bubble pack from the shelf, ask for a real plumbers from behind counter, come loose, no package

the profesional eazyout is simple and will get the broken section out on first try

the counterman will tell you how to use

let us know how you do by posting back

BTW i know nothing about heating systems, i do have alot of common sense and knoweldge....also know just enough thru life experence to stay as far away from them home centers and do my part matchi9ng at local vendors like hardware store, plumbing, electric , lumber supply stores
