I am taking off 7 layers of cracking paint found on my old plaster wall. Everywhere the paint has cracked I have found cracks in the plaster. So many hairline cracks that I want to sand them sown. But all the plaster is covered with a thin brown stain. Is this an important finish? Can I sand down the original plaster so I get out the bumps and cracks? Help? Comments appreciated.
