We are redoing our bathroom. We are replacing a steel tub with a cast iron one. Are 2x6 joists on 16" centers and an 8' span enough support for a 350lb cast iron tub, 200lbs of glass doors, 250lbs of Swanstone wall covering, and 300lbs of me and some water. 1050lbs total or roughly 105 per sq ft?
I think the answer is no, it's not enough.
What would be a better fix, sistering another 2x6 on each joist or cutting the span in half by adding another beam on pier blocks?
