I want to remodel my home and knock out a wall between two bedrooms. The house is a standard ranch with each floor measuring approx 25x50. I want to knock out a wall at the back of the house to open up two smaller rooms and make the back bedroom 15 x 25 taking up the entire back of the house's 25 width. The house has a I beam running down the middle (length) and supports the first floor. The wall I want to remove is basically over the I beam and breaks out the 25' span currently.
How can I tell if this is a load bearing wall before I start demolition?
