Margaret,
First, surely you are using a mitre box to cut your crown molding? If not, you can purchase an inexpensive one and make sure you have a good saw.
Secondly, remember that in cutting molding, whether it is inside corners or outside corners, that all cuts are either 45 degrees or 90 degrees. Of course, there are exceptions, such as irregular shaped rooms, triangular windows or openings, but 99.9% of the time your cuts will be 45 degrees or 90 degrees.
Lastly, you must make sure that your crown molding is sitting "flush" when the actual cut is made. Crown molding can be very simple in design or very elaborate. When you get into the more exotic shapes, you may have to fashion a jig to hold the molding in a proper position for exact cutting.
Crown molding is typically pretty expensive, so find yourself some scrap lumber and test a cut prior to putting the blade to the real McCoy.
