Power Vent Longevity

I have a house that is 8 years old. The exhaust to our tankless water heater goes through a power vent to the outside (instead of going up the chimney flue, which I've heard is the right way to vent an oil burning system). The power vent motor has already been replaced once (last year), and now it sounds like it's on the fritz again. Plus, we have no hot water. How long are these supposed to last?
