Matt...I too live in the Chicago area...and the price of prefinished hardwood floors range from $7.50 to $11.00 a square foot(NOT INSTALLED)...This is way over priced...After searching high and low...I found a great place to buy the flooring(The Great Western Flooring Co in Oswego). I got 2 3/4" X 3/4" Select and higher grade prefinished Maple for $4.50/sqft...I'm very Happy
I did price installation...that came to $3.00 +/sqft(Not sure where Alan lives to get a price of $1.50/sqft installed and $2/sqft for the flooring...Maybe ALASKA or MARS...THERE IS LIFE OUT THERE AFTER ALL) Only kidding Alan. I wish we had those prices here.
