Drywall, even painted moisture resistant drywall cannot stand up to persistent water contact or immersion. You must apply a waterproof surface such as tile, stone or a fiberglass, acrylic or plastic covering. Maybe I'm wrong, but there might be a reason every bath and shower stall I have ever seen uses resiliant sealed surfaces. Anyway, good luck, and let me know if you prove me wrong.
