I am replacing a shower pan in my shower. I have leveled and secured the pan directly to the studs around the shower enclosure and have removed the drywall, three feet up the wall, because of water damage. I will replace the drywall sections will cement tile backerboard and then tile the walls. My question is, should the backer board hang above the rim of the pan, or extend over the rim? My concern is that if I hang the board above the rim, there won't be a solid backing behind the bottom row of tiles because the 1/2 inch backerboard is thicker than the 1/8 inch rim. If I extend the board over the rim, it will pull the board out an 8th of an inch at the bottom and I'm afraid my tiles won't lay flat. Help!
