Deck Mounted Flag Pole - Grounding?

I have a 20 ft aluminum flag pole that came with a deck mounting system (I have a 2nd floor deck). The directions that came with the flag pole do not mention the need to ground this flag pole to protect against lightening. I am assuming that regardless of what the manufacturer has failed to mention, the pole should be grounded. What size copper wire and copper rod should I use? How deep does the copper rod need to be driven? What's the proper method for attaching the copper wire to the flag pole? Thanks. Was this post helpful? Yes: or No:
