Assuming we are talking about a standard sump pump tied in to french drains (and not a sewage pump), it will run as much as you have water coming in. Has it been raining lately where you are at? That is the likely culprit. They are designed to pump out the water around the foundation.
Check your gutters to see if they are dumping next to the house and check the slope to see if water is draining away from the house and not puddling next to it. Make sure the discharge is getting the water away from the house far enough so it isn't just soaking back into the drain pipe and sump.
