I agree with you that mark-up is way too much. I have some good advice for you. You can buy your own equipment (condensing coil, pad, line set and whatever else you need. Get a contractor who will just perorm the labor, hence no mark-up on material. It sounds like this guy is trying to rook you. a reasonal mark-up on material is between 30 and 40 %. This covers the contractor's time at the supply house and the hauling of the materials. Don't go with this guy. There are alot of good guy's out there who will work with you.
