Get yourself another plumber. You mentioned you had a single lever. As Bob said the ecuctcheons will cover the large opening that hides the shower valve. The shower riser (the pipe that leads to the showerhead) is included with the installation. And like lg mentioned what make of faucet is currently in place? You may be able to get an identical replacement or even replace a cartridge if it's a Moen. I hate to see people taken advantage of by unscupulous people. There outta be a law!
