I don't think they are polyurethaned

I read somewhere that if they were polyurethaned, you wouldn't be able to feel the woodgrain. Is that true? I can feel the woodgrain, so that's why I don't think they are polyurethaned. So if they aren't, I use a wax or oil, right? I'm moving in in less than a week and don't know how to clean my own floors! Eee gads.
