Paint Strippers Posted by Henry in MI on March 20th, 2000 05:41 PM In reply to citristrip by Mrs. Bean on March 20th, 2000 03:16 PM [Go to top of thread]
Mrs. Bean, you are right that Citristrip is not always the best choice but it is a safe choice. If you have a heavier paint build up, Peel Away is a great product. But from what I see, most problems with stripper is that people do not leave them on long enough. 24 hours may be required for Citristrip and 48 hours is not uncommon for Peel Away. A heat gun can be a good tool to use but I prefer to let the stripper do the work while I am watching TV or something to wearing a cartridge type respirator suitable for lead vapor while using a heat gun. If you heat lead based paint to over 600 degrees, the lead can vaporize out and be a real health hazard. However, I did suggest a heat gun just today to someone working on an outdoor porch ceiling, so there are a lot of factors. Henry in MI
