The only fix - and it is not a good one - is to glue and clamp it. I would use carpenter's yellow glue and clamp it tightly with a C-clamp.
There are special screws that are made to hold better in such materials. Those I have seen have a double thread with one shorter than the other. But it is still a loser.
Realize also that there are several grades of particleboard. The cheap stuff at a home center is just about useless. The better quality PB is also more water resistant.
