LOAD BEARING WALL

I agree with Hammerman. you'll need some professional advice from someone who can look at your home. But why anyone would want to remove a wall and replace it with jacks is beyond me. Ever notice how their always in the way in a basement. With the right sized i-beam you could span the entire length or width of a building. That is provided you have the space needed between the ceiling and roof structure to accomidate an 8" or thicker beam. Price also has to be considered as steel i-beams don't come cheap and a full span on a second floor would need a crane to install it. FOOD FOR THOUGHT!
