Harbor Freight drill press Posted by Henry in MI on April 23rd, 2004 06:26 AM In reply to Chicago Machinery sold by Habor Freight by Bob on April 22nd, 2004 08:27 AM [Go to top of thread]
I have had one for about 20 years that was not sold by Harbor Freight but is the same model they were selling and came out of the same factory in China. It's the best $40 I ever spent on tools and the amazing thing is that the prices today are about the same.
After some initial use, you may want to consider getting a better vee belt that would be about $10 at a large auto parts store. I bolted a flat oak board to the table with carriage bolts that had the heads countersunk into the top of the table. Then, I bored a hole into the oak board with a 2-3/8" Forstner bit (same size as for a lockset on a door) and then I chuck a 2x2" drum sanding drum into the chuck for use as a sander. For a very low cost, you get a way to sand edges of boards and so on that is about the equal of a reciprocating drum sander and at a lot less cost.
