Young and wanting to start accumulating life-long home furniture

Posted by Damian on April 25th, 2004 10:05 AM

Is it worthwhile to buy unfinished solid wood furniture and get the desired stain that you perfer or should you take your time buying high end pieces from a set that you find appealing as you can afford them? I ask because the unfinished furniture that I have seen still seems just as unsturdy as something I can assemble myself. I want to buy or make furniture that will stay appealing throughout its use and always keep its function and if desired still be wanted as a vesatile piece. If I want to make my own furniture what would you suggest as far as tools I need to gather to make a quality product. Mind you I am naive to woodworking but I am very good with my hands and can easily learn new techniques ie. historic restore of custom tile roofing.
