making and painting a counter top

My husband actually bought the suggested wood from Lowes and built a counter top. We want to paint it instead of putting the traditional laminate on it. He primed it and put one coat of latex paint on it. I am going to go over the latex with a decorative silver glaze paint from (Decorative Effects) My question is do you have any suggestions on what type of clear coat we should use to seal it?
