Ceiling Fan Wiring Problem

Posted by John on April 26th, 2004 10:44 AM

I installed a ceiling fan with lights recently in a circuit with two threeway switches. The appliance worked well for a month or more but we now have a problem. When either wall switch is turned on the curcuit breaker immediately trips. I tested the fan by running an extension cord from a distant wall socket and the fan and lights work. I need advice! Is it possible that the fan with three lights is too much load for the threeway switches? I do not know how to test the switches but they seem to be working. Would appreciate any and all ideas on what might be the problem and how to troubleshoot further.
