What is meant by the single pole has 3 wires on it? Is there 3 leads coming off it, or does it have a pigtail with 2 wires on the tail? If there is 3 wires on the switch then it would not be a single pole switch. Try this site: http://www.wfu.edu/~matthews/courses/p230/switches/SwitchesTut.html
