Microwave oven-Fire danger???

Posted by Tara on April 29th, 2004 10:21 AM

I could really use a tip here. The top of my microwave, upper right hand corner, was warm after microwaving food for 20 seconds. I had set two pot holders in that spot and noticed the heat when I removed them. It was warm only in this spot, and the heat soon dissapated.
This is a hand-me-down appliance, so I don't know how old it is or what it has been through.
Is there any danger here of fire, and should I just buy a new unit? Or is this warmth due to the pot holders on the top?
Yeah, I know...I have no electrical knowledge at all...sorry.
Please let me know...I'm keeping it unplugged until I find out more info.
Thanks
