My in-laws bought three Hampton Bay fans from Home Depot in 1990. Last summer one fan fell to the floor in the living room. Luckily no one was hurt. The Home Depot gave them a new fan without question. The hanger bracket broke. It was obviously a manufacture's defect. A few days ago, the den fan came down. The bracket didn't brack, but the it spread open enough for the plastic ball/hemisphere to slip through. Again a bracket manufacturing defect. Who monitors and/or regulates these type of manufacturing defects? People can really get hurt. Should there be a recall or an tigher industry standard or a redesign of these type of brackets? The brackets should last longer than the fan by many years. This isn't isolated, what about their bedroom fan, is that next? What should Hampton Bay and Home Depot do at this point, besides giving us another fan?
