Lets see, circa 1970. The siding could go either way, but your description makes me think non-asbestos. Residential ACM siding was about 3/16 inches thick and was typically 16x24 shingles with a wood grain embrossed. Asbestos shingles were homogenous, not two layered. But lots of variations. Fiber cement siding can be reinforced with fiberglass, cellulose, and in the past, with asbestos. If you want to double check, just take a small inconspicuous sample and have an analytical lab run a PLM (Polarized light microscopy) test. Costs about $35 and is easy to do. Was this post helpful?
