I can't believe it! My fan has died, too. I worked fine over the last two years or so. Then, a month ago, the lights started turning on randomly. At first I thought I had mistakenly left them on, then, I replaced the battery in the remote. Same thing happened. Then I left the battery OUT of the remote. The light STILL came on randomly, then, the fan. Yesterday, the light came on and I had to kill the breaker to keep them off. I finally had to take the fan down. I would love to have an explanation. Sounds like one of the computer chips has a year 2004 problem ;~)
