I am not aware of any T-111 siding recalls. Four years is a very short time to be seeing failures in this siding. I have seen this siding develop warp, cracks and splits on highly exposed areas in 15 to 20 years, but this is very unusual. What is the nature of the siding going bad?

It sounds like an installation or finishing problem. Keep in mind T-111 usually performs a structural function on the house by replacing plywood sheathing that is used for bracing corners. It must be installed with Z flashing between horizontal joints, and should be primed and painted but is sometimes stained. Installation should not be in ground contact. Typical nailing schedules are 8 or 10 penny nails 4-inches on edges and 6 to 8 inches field. It should have been installed over housewrap or felts. Siding failure may be related to improper flashing, nailing, painting etc. If any of these were improperly done, your recourse is through the builder, not the manufacturer.
