I am currently in the process of trying to revitalize my existing lawn. I recently had numerous trees (Silver maples) removed. To cover the holes left when the stumps were removed I backfilled them with a dirt and topsoil mix. I also did the same for many spots that were dug up because of the silver maples roots lying at the surface thus creating a tripping hazard. My main question is when I proceed to plant the grass seed should I add anything else to the soil before planting the seed? I mean like compost, manure (mushroom etc)? Also should I use peat moss or just straw/hay to cover when I'm finished seeding. Or does it even matter?
