I have a "new" 1915 house with baseboards that have a groovy molding running along the top that I'm stripping. Problem is, the drywall-over-plaster job that was done years ago is a bit too thick, and in many places butts over the baseboards (even before my stripping magic). Removing the baseboards is not a practical option given the amount of corners to accommodate. I am thinking of cutting off the lower few inches of drywall above the molding and using joint compound to smooth out the edge. I realize there will be a slight slope to the wall toward the bottom and potential plaster disasters. Any brighter ideas?
