The advantage of a freestanding deck is that it does not have to be installed below the frost level thus saving you from excavating all your footings and support columns.

The advantage of a freestanding deck is that you do not have to bolt it and flash it at the house.

The disadvantage is that it is usually more costly than an attached deck because you need more footings.

The disadvantage is that a freestanding deck is subject to heaving and lifting if you are in a freeze area.

Check with your local building code for deck block or footing requirements. Many jurisdictions will not allow them at all.
