THe easiest way I found is with a POGO STICK, it probably has another name but that's what Home Depot Calls is. It's basically a air chisel with a 6 foot bar attached. It comes with a wide blade. You press the bladed against the thinset, give it some air and the stuff peels up like tough butter but so much faster than sanding, scraping, beating, etc...
