How did you determine that you have an open neutral?? normally an open is detected with a circuit tester with lites to indicate open ground, open neutral or reversal of hot and neutral, or reversal of neutral and ground. Yes, it could be a defective recepticle. no the gfic will not solve the problem. the gfic will do nothing for the open neutral problem
