I have an attic over an attached 2 car garage that I would like to make usable. The roof is currently supported by W (Fink) trusses made of 2x4 lumber spaced 24" apart. Would it be possible to attach 2x8 bottom and top cords to the existing rafters and remove the web rafters thus opening up the space. This seems feasible to my non engineering mind but I still have a problem in how to install a ridge board or would one even be necessary. I am trying to figure how to increase the space without removing the roof. Any thoughts?
