Installing cabinets Posted by Henry in MI on May 20th, 2004 06:39 AM In reply to Cabinets by BobF on May 20th, 2004 04:29 AM [Go to top of thread]
Kevin, if you are going to remove your old cabinets and replace them with new ones, that is something that a somewhat experienced amateur can do. If you have watched someone like Norm Abram or Dean Johnson install cabinets a few times and feel that you understand the process, you should be able to accomplish it. You may still wish that you hadn't started it half way through but you will feel even more proud when it's complete. BobF is correct if you are talking about rebuilding, refinishing or refacing your current cabinets. That's tougher than what is basically a swap out situation. For what it's worth, our library has a couple of books on this and magazines like The Family Handyman have run articles. I ran the numbers and, though the prices for new cabinets sound high, it's still cheaper to buy them than to build new ones and the finish on commercial ones is more durable than what you can do at home.
