Don't try to hide it. The best thing you can do as a renter, (In MY opinion) is to come clean with your landlord right away. You say the vanity is 25 years old, and this couldn't possibly be the first thing that has happened to it. Chances are, you can work something out with the owners to replace the counter top (they don't cost all that much)
