and if the utility companies dropped their pressure to 55 pounds, you would be the first to scream BAD WATWER PREASSURE if there wasw a fire in your home and it took twice as long to put out because of low water pressure. Everywhere that I have lived, the normal pressure at the meter to the house was 100 to 120 pounds. Many local codes require that the homeowner have a pressure reducer on the input line, normally just inside the basement or in the garage. If installed correctly, there is a ghate valve just prior to the reducer so that water can be shut off prior to ANY plumbing repairs. MY 2 cents worth.
