Hi J_Dudley,

Two shingles along the bottom of the house were starting to "bow" out. We found the dry rot on the sill plate after we pulled them off. Our neighbor's getting some work done on his house, and we hijacked his contractor for a few minutes. Following his advice, we bought some 2X4 lumber, a sledgehammer, and a piece of 2X6 pressure treat (12 ft?).

Tomorrow, we're using the 2X4s to raise the house where the damaged sill plate is one inch. We've planned to place them every two feet along the basement floor. Once we've raised the house one inch (keep your fingers crossed here) we're going to knock what's left of the sill plate into the basement, and put the new piece of pressure treat in its place using the sledgehammer. Once its in place, we'll remove the 2X4s, and the house will then sit on the new sill plate.
