Is there such a thing as "spray-on insulation"??????

Posted by Jim Schneider on May 23rd, 2004 01:27 AM

I have one end of a 100+ year old house that is getting air infiltration from somehere along the stone foundation (somewhere where the foundation meets the sill of house). This "end of the house" is aprox. 20' X 20'---However the crawl-space under this area is only 18" high! Consequently, it is very difficult to crawl around the perimeter to check for air infiltration. Seems, that I remember seeing, on TV, a segment where they were spraying-on insulation (between studs)--- after the insulation expanded---they trimmed back the foamed-out insulation, so it was flush with studs. With this approach, seems I could crawl close enough to the stone wall perimeter that I could spray the heck out of the stone wall area and even spray up where the stone wall meets the sill of house!!?? Naturally, I would not worry about "trimming back" the insulation. As I remember this spray-on set-up had a "spray wand" that was about 4 to 5 ft long-- that would make application easier. (By-the-way, I did tuck-point the exterior of the stone wall foundation.) Please give me brand names, authorized dealers, etc. Thanks. Jim.
