Home Remedy Squirrel Repellant For Bird Feeders

I know there are several commercial products to keep squirrels from raiding bird feeders.

What I want is a "home remedy". I think that the basic ingredient is something like cayenne pepper.

Would cayenne pepper alone do the job? And what proportions? It is obviously must less expensive than the commercials.
