It rather depends on what type of hole you need as to what method would be most effective. If you are going straight down in order to run plumbing or wiring from one floor to another, then a diamond hole saw would be the way to go. However, if you wish to add a drain for basement plumbing, running horizintally,you might consider how I have done it. I scored a 1" deep groove in the concrete with my Skill Saw using a masonry blade, then broke out the concrete with a sledge and a cold chisel. Was this post helpful? Yes: or No:
