porch with a room under, how not to leak?

Posted by Dave W on May 24th, 2004 10:59 AM

I live in an extremely old home and have been restoring it for a few years. I have recently started on the back porch. The porch floor is tongue and groove and is for the most part shot.

I was starting to strip all the old paint off but have discovered that the gaps between the boards are extremely wide and there there are numerous boards that will need replacing.

The main problem is that underneath this porch is the laundry room, so essentially this floor acts as the roof to this room, so patching holes make me nervous.

How can I replace this floor so that it won't leak? Tongue and groove flooring is traditionally not designed for outdoor use and to be honest really isn't economical, not to mention it is difficult to find thick enough for my needs. If I have no choice then use it, but would rather try something else.

Thanks
