Electric deer fence

Posted by John on May 26th, 2004 11:45 AM

I have tried to grow sweet corn for the last couple of year and every year the deer come in and wipe me out just as the ears are maturing. I've tried all the scents, scarecows, noise makers and lights, without sucess. This year I'm going high tech.

This year I'm going with an electric fence. What is the typical voltage required to shock a deer, but not kill it. I wouldn't mind a dead one, except I'd have to haul the carcus away and it might push my wife over the edge. I have an old 12 v malibu light controller I was considering using, would that be enough to zap the pests?

I live in a woody area with no problems with neighbors kids or anything else to get in the way of the fence.
