Bathroom Help Please!!!!!

Posted by Maureen on May 27th, 2004 02:35 AM

Hi, I am in the midst of trying to repair my bathroom but I need help so I repair properly! A while ago, water repeatedly leaked into broken seals between my bathtub and the surrounding wall unit. Unfortunately it went un-noticed until the gip-rock behind the bath wall unit began curling and crumbling away.
So far, for repairing I have ripped out the rotten gip rock and 3 piece wall unit around the tub. The insulation and water barrier underneath the gip-rock were not damaged.

Before I begin re-building the wall around the tub, I am anxious to know if the floor underneath the tub has been damaged by the leak. Will someone please advise me on how to check this?
I want to just lift the tub up to see underneath, but the drain is attached and I don't know how to take the drain out. Is it difficult to take the drain out? (No faucets or other pipes are attached to the tub so I only have to worry about the drain.)

Also, if there is damage to the floor beneath the tub, how do I go about fixing this? I cannot afford someone to come do it for me.

Please advise me on how to fix my bathroom!!??!! Thank you!
