I am renting a house that is about 60-70 yrs old. I have no idea how old the water pump is. I have seen older ones. I have come to the conclusion that it comes on once for every quart of water it pumps. (I discovered this when making a gallon of Kool Aid for the children. It came on 4 times to fill one gallon.) It runs for 3-4 seconds and shuts off. When doing laundry there are times that it seems it runs almost constant. When I first moved in 6 months ago, it came on twice when the toilet was flushed. Now it is 6-8 times. I haven't a clue about these things. So I need the most basic advice. I'm intelligent and catch things quickly so give me all the details...
What's wrong with this thing? My husband thinks I am just a household hypocondriac, but this just isn't right. It can't be. And it has to be hard on the pump. Any ideas? I hope someone can help.
